ABOVE ALL...THE SHIELD OF FAITH

EPHESIANS 6:16

             Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

The shield is part of the Armor but does not adorn itself as a garment like the breastplate, helmet, etc. But rather, protects the Armor/knight from getting struck with a weapon by the knight moving the shield as needed from the direction the dart/ weapon is coming.

Let’s break this down a bit more:

   FAITH, by definition is a belief without a need of certain proof.

   Hebrews 11:1-3 says that FAITH is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.

        Mathew 17:20 says that FAITH is as a grain of a mustard seed.

        Romans 10:17 says that FAITH comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

   QUENCH, by definition is to extinguish, to put out, to put to an end, to cool down by thrusting into water.

There have been warriors who, in times of battle, would literally drench their shields with water before standing in the front lines of battle, hoping to put out the fiery darts/arrows before further damage or harm came to the entire troops or village.

Can you see the enemies’ fiery darts coming at you in your life situations? By allowing your faith, to become a shield springing up as a well of water within you to put to an end the attack of those burning darts by the washing of the water of the word of God.

   PSALMS 1:3 says that we should be like that trees planted by the rivers of water that bud and grow.

             JOHN 4:14 Jesus talks of a well of water springing up into everlasting life, that whosoever drinks of this water shall never thirst.

I don’t know about you, but I want my faith…my shield…to be fully saturated in that living water to war off any and all attacks from the enemy. And the only way that would happen is if we were to pick up our shield and put our shield of faith to work.

JAMES 2:17 says that faith without works is dead.

SHIELDS UP, STAND FIRM!!
